Hey /lit/
I'm looking for some good war books, particularly about the Vietnam war.
I've read Catch-22 and The Things They Carried, and I like the absurdist and surreal style of narrative.
Do you have any good recommendations?

Slaughterhouse V. It's not a war book really, but its fairly absurd.

Yes, because that's what happens.

Anyways, any other suggestions? I'm also open for nonfiction books about the war. I've heard of "The Untold War", does anyone know if that's any good?

First blood, rambo's based on this novel. Vietnam vet suffering from PTSD and freaking out in a small town? Yes sir.

"The Short Timers" and "The Phantom Blooper" by Gustav Hasford will fulfill your need for absurdism.

"Dispatches" by Michael Herr is "journalism" but also in that absurdist vein.

When you're ready for a "real" Vietnam novel check out "Fields of Fire" by Jim Webb.
