mondaugen's story is the best thing pynchon ever wrote by a fair margin and one of the best pieces of 20th century prose

not really that huge of a pynchon fan other than certain episodes like mondaugen's story, confessions of fausto maijstral, v in love, some parts of gravity's rainbow (the episode of franz pökler, byron the bulb), and a scarse few in mason and dixon, along with possibly the ending of col49 if i reread it

It was my first Pynchon book. I expected mystery, intrigue, war, social and political commentary.

I got alligators, a guy fucking a rat, a schmuck, niggers, Germans and steampunk.

What is Google?

And yes, I liked it. It and M&D are my favourite Pynchon books. I haven't read AtD yet, and I have a soft spot for Vineland.
