>When we want to give expression to a dramatic situation in our lives, we tend to use metaphors of heaviness. We say that something has become a great burden to us. We either bear the burden or fail and go down with it, we struggle with it, win or lose. And Sabina - what had come over her? Nothing. She had left a man because she felt like leaving him. Had he persecuted her? Had he tried to take revenge on her? No. Her drama was a drama not of heaviness but of lightness. What fell to her lot was not the burden, but the unbearable lightness of being.

>Today all this is, or should be, a part of the past: `Nietzscheanism' is as dead as `Wagnerism', and what we are left with is not a doctrine that might be preached and stand in need of defence but a human individual, an artist in language of great skill and power, and a philosopher of compelling insight and strictness of principle; we are left with the man and his philosophy.

Iphones are objectively bad, not recognizing this fact is a symptom of mental disorders

>> No.6041578

>Iphones are objectively bad
Here in Vietnam they represent wealth. If you don't have an iphone, you're poor and rank below an iphone user. Now it's an iphone6 -- If you're still using an iphone 5 or 5s, you're not as wealthy as an iphone6 user. It's the same throughout most of Asia, we have the concept of 'face'. Despite being buddhist, we need an outward display of wealth to determine social hierarchy. So we take out loans to drape ourselves in $10k necklaces, buy iphones, and even cars that we can't really afford.

Despite this, they aren't 'objectively bad'. They are functionally sound for all the services a user wants. Compared to a nokia from a decade ago they are incredible. In the west, the affluent countries, there seems to be a climate of hating apple products. Probably because apple products are, to some extent, veblen goods, and also because of the associations -- the "starbucks hipster" scarecrow, and "the guy who isn't a tech wizard."

I use a samsung galaxy s5, and my gf uses an iphone. We whatsapp each other, both send sms, sometimes skype or viber, facebook, some light internet use, occasional photographs. I wouldn't say either one of us are missing anything. I don't understand why people need to be in the best phone club, all you do is talk to friends, watch porn, google things and take shitty pictures. You're not genotyping for potential cancer cures.
