How is it a copout?

If you look at it timeframe-wise, the second half of the book had time passing way faster. Plus the whole final sequence with the bomb and all felt very hurried, almost as if King got bored with writing the thing. I guess cop out wasn't the best term, but I felt a little shortchanged with the ending.

Yeah no, I totally get what you meant. It really does feel as if he realized he opened up more than he'd wanted and had to just end it all right then and there lest he write another 500 pages.

The second half is shit. There's a lengthy section full of civics crap, there's too much thinly veiled religious allegory, there's too much of that hulking retard, too much of that deluded black woman. The ending was bullshit, lightning of god hitting the bomb or whatever, just another instance of Stephen King phoning it in again.

That being said, I'm glad Flagg survived even if it was just another instance of King's shallow moralizing.

I thought the retard was a nice character, albeit a simple one, and it was kind of cool, if cliché, that he was the only one Flagg didn't have power over.

The part that got obnoxious was hearing every single character describe their dreams about the Mother and Flagg and it was always the same dream and the same foreshadowing. It could've been cooler if they all had like different interpretations or something.
