How does /lit/ feel about Bakker? Does he escape the confines of genre fiction?

>the confines of genre fiction?
Define these "confines"

Is he respectable on a philosophical or literary level, not simply for world-building or employment of genre aesthetics.

I like the Prince of Nothing trilogy a lot, but Neuropath was a little too wrapped up in making a philosophical point.

I'd say he has more philosophical depth than most genre writers. Most of his characters come from a somewhat unique philosophical background (most notably Kellhus' determinism cult). I don't remember there being anything special about his literary style or prose, but he is a competent writer

This is the one that had an insane barbarian that lusted after the protagonist's father and hating himself for it, right?

Sorry. That's the part I remember most.

I'd call him genre fiction, but with more philosophical interests than most genre fiction writers, and certainly fresher ideas.
