What does /lit/ think of Bertolt Brecht?
Which of his works would you recommend?

Mack the knife

His stories pale in comparison with his poems, songs and plays. Das Lied von der Unzulänglichkeit menschlichen Strebens is probably my favourite.

He seems like the kind of guy who seriously hopes you don't do this.

>tfw he was only good when Kurt Weill was composing for him

bretty gud
But people are slightly mad at him now because he supported the GDR regime so much, going so far to oppose the mass demonstrations of the 17th July '53, he said it was started by fascists and the CIA, but he later exhibited a more differentiated position (the famous line, "wouldn't it be better if the government dissolved the people and voted for another?").

From the theater pieces I'd recommend Life of Galilei, Mother Courage, The Good Person of Szechwan

From his songs you probably know Alabama Song, possibly Einheitsfrontlied, and some songs from The Threepenny Opera, notably Mack The Knife

I am not familiar with him directly, but a fantastic play inspired by him and Artaud is called Marat/Sade. Inmates in an asylum act out dualing philosophies of the French Revolution in front of an audience in front of another audience
