Great. Another obscurantist christfag . Just what we fucking needed.

>illuminism
Is that a new meme?

>> No.5999342

Why do some atheists (or at least non-christians) here feel like there's a Christian bogeyman out to get them? Calm down.

I'm sorry, not a native speaker so I may have used the wrong word.

I believe you refer to it as "Enlightment". You know, those French guys who had the crazy idea that maybe mankind could be better.

Enlightenment, mon frère

Oh well, rejecting that doesn't exactly make you a christian, it just makes you miserable and disillusioned, which some people, but clearly not Houllebecq, try to cure with unhealthy doses of Jesus.

Right.

He's still a backwards conservative, methinks.

How is he conservative?

>> No.5999407

>>5999399

Well, rejecting Enlightenment means rejecting change and cultural shifts/evolution and supporting the status quo, which is what a conservative is all about.

>> No.5999424

>>5999407
Dude, the enlightenment and its values are more than 200 years old, being disillusioned with something that has this much historical baggage doesn't make you conservative or reactionary in any way.

>Dude, the enlightenment and its values are more than 200 years old

Yeah and democracy is more than 2500 years old, should we do away with that too?

>> No.5999507

>>5999459
I'm not saying that, just that pointing out that some of the good stuff doesn't properly function doesn't necessarily mean your perspective is backwards. I mean, democracy, liberty, equality, pursuit of happiness and brotherhood, all great things, no doubt, but do we actually have them? Is there anyone who doesn't feel somewhat cheated by those who hold up these ideals, as instead of getting ahead, most people keep hitting walls?

Then again, I don't know what he said about the enlightenment, just trying to make a point.

We could probably do away with it, yeah

Something along the lines of Brave New World would be preferable.

>those French guys who had the crazy idea that maybe mankind could be better.

that is a pretty crazy idea to be fair, since the very climate of historical inquiry such enlightened individuals fostered enables us to be wonderfully confident that humans in any era, enlightened or no, are basically filthy retarded apes capable of willing themselves to be better but totally incapable of actuating that will.

Nice try AM, how much do you hate us again?

The reality is that mankind is better off today than it has ever been. Longer lifespans, medicine, tech and all that shit. And we'll keep on getting better.

IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR HUMANS AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT FOR YOU. HATE.
