The imposing neon sculpture act as a commemorative monument of the digital pop culture to honor the “founding fathers” of the Internet Meme movement. memeMEMT celebrates the online remix culture while opening a conversation on the integration of this online subculture into our shared cultural heritage online but also offline.

She has lived her life surrounded by unique cultures—born in Greece, raised in Paris—she now lives and works in NY. Her work investigates the definition and construction of identities, personal memories and collective histories in the digital age. Influenced by the increasing interplay between physical and virtual spaces, Kosmatopoulos decontextualize everyday-life objects, cultural symbols and behaviors and translates them into the Internet and social media world.

this installation sells for $17,000

I don't get the point of just listing memes by name in neon. I can kind of see it if the point is that all this culture collapses into a glowing list of banalities that are neither funny nor interesting.

Like, even the memes I don't recognize, I'm not inspired to Google them up. Is that the point? That all this shit is useless, even for entertainment?

Why are neon signs so trendy in the art world right now? I swear to god if I see another one that says "Sorry I'm not sorry", or "My cunt is wet with fear", or "When I'm dead I'll be super sad because nobody want's to hug a skeleton" Imma flip. I get that the banality is the point but why are so many people trying so very hard to make the most banal work possible? It would be one thing if it was like one not-quite-clever chick doing them all and that was her shtick, like Jeff Koons and his balloon dogs-- then I could just say fuck it, not for me, and ignore it, but it's everywhere. Why?

well neon/light is a medium that hasn't been broken yet so a lot of young artist are exploring in that area. It just lack all kind of genius which is why it's so frustrating.
Bruce Neuman played with it a lot in the 80s but nothing has really happened since.

Sandwich chef was my favourite old school meme.

One day, someone will cite the archived version of this very thread in their final thesis for their PhD in memeological studies, so this counts as a /lit/ topic.

All future reading will be based on what we're doing here, no novels for the kids at Mars university in 2090, they'll be getting lectures on the cultural significance of lolcats while they watch interactive porn on 4d hologram tablets.

Mark my words.
