There's absolutely no sense of subtlety in his work. He uses a lot of metaphors and allusions, but is so proud of them that he explicitly points them out and explains them within the narrative. Like he has to draw attention to how creative his metaphors are and has to spoonfeed their meaning to you. The whole thing comes off as indulgent. He writes shit like (not exact quotes):

yes, clearly we did move to a pseudo (not actually) monogamous model, but again, you can not point to any biological evolutionary imperative for monogamy. the formation of the family was entirely a social change, and it continues to be reinforced (and enforced) by social pressures. Where these social pressures weaken, as they are in many places in the west today, you see the illusion of monogamy crumbling.

The answer is simple. You should if it that particular thing resonates you. You don't have to seek out justification for enjoying something. You especially don't need justification for someone else liking something. I like pretty poppy music, because I enjoy it (I also like avant garde music such as Electro Acoustic, drone, and lower-case). People often try to prosecute me for like Pierre Henry, Sunn 0))), or the Spice Girls. Like, why the fuck do you care about what I like if you don't like it either, Lets try to find some center-ground. Something that resonates with both of us - instead of nitpicking someone else's taste. Who gives a fuck if a bunch of kids get their pleasure from reading this middle-adged, dad-core, geeky oaf?
