Yeah, it's pretty crazy how a bunch of people have opinions and stuff.

>> No.5908807

No it's crazy that anyone who wrote a book filled with boring ones is considered a great writer

It's almost like, the road=life=toaism="the way"

WOAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH PASSSTHEBLUNT420!!!

>> No.5908818

sure it's a good book if you want to listen to a knuckleheaded football player trying to get spiritual and really "relate" with black people.

>> No.5908823

>>5908799
he is talking about the book, not about opinions on the book.

>> No.5908826

>>5908799

he's imitating the content of the book, not criticisms of the book (besides how any of those would even be considered criticisms is beyond me, but you're apparently an idiot)

>> No.5908829

I'm reading The Dharma Bums right now and it is one heck of a lot more interesting than On the Road.

>> No.5908924

wait til you read to the friend cuck part : funny stuff but kinda weird

>> No.5908933

>>5908829
Is it? Because On The Road really put me off Kerouac. How is it different?

>> No.5908937

neal cassady was an interesting dude and sort of carries the novel, but it's more a historical piece than something with literary value. it's clearly a period piece, which isn't to say the novel is worthless, it takes something special to be a period piece, but it's going to be forgotten

>> No.5909062

Don't try to look into it too deep into it.
Read it like a book for amusement about a bunch of people with insane amounts of stamina to constantly be on a run, binge drinking, doing drugs just for.
Then there is this emotional side where he describes his feelings or sceneries of the world he has not seen before. That thing is pretty good too.

Just bought this book today, actually. It's lying right next to me. I'm gonna give it a read after I finish Tropic of Cancer.

>> No.5910944

>>5910928

at least tropic of cancer is occasionally funny.

>> No.5910958

I disagree with that, if you can sympathize with the characters and i don't think everyone do then some of the situations they find themselves in are hella fun. Laughed out loud several times while reading it in a library

Article is good, and comment section is surprisingly readable.

It's the same but with bullshit Buddhism shoehorned in it. On the Road is far more interesting, but the truth of the matter is that Kerouac is shit.

>> No.5911766

>>5908770
good parts here and there

prose often horribly bland/purple

3/5 one of the good books of the 50s
