How is this? Also, does the fact that Chris The Attention Whore's name is on it mean that it's basically fake?

>> No.5853190

why is Tolkien's name bigger than the book title when he didn't even fucking write it

Anything with "Christopher Tolkien" on it should be avoided at all costs.
Just read the Heaney translation.

All I can find is that he is buttmad about Peter Jackson, is that it?

>> No.5853249

Its good OP, Tolkien knew and taught anglosaxon. Heanys is mediocre.

Any good enjoyer of Tolkien should hate Hackson, not sure why everyone hates the man for doing what any self-respecting guardian of his father's work should do

C'mon, the LOTR trilogy is GOAT. I can understand your frustration over the Hobbit trilogy though.

My head hurts from this thread. "I hate this, I hate that, well I hate them both" No qualifiers, no reasons.

Silmarillion is good, Yes "JRRTolkien" is the biggest thing on the cover to attract the flies, welcome to advertising, translating books to films are difficult.

>>5853183
Why would Chris need to get involved with that at all? Did dad not finish his translation? Then hand it over to someone qualified.

>> No.5855952

>>5855908
Tolkien started his translation in his twenties and worked on it until his death. Christopher took the handwritten work and compiled it into a coherent printed text. The first hundred pages is the actual translation. Then there's another hundred pages of Tolkien's notes about the translation and the work as a whole. Finally, Christopher found some unpublished, I hate to call it fanfiction, but its essentially that, that his father wrote about Beowulf.

Nothing, if anyone was to edit Tolkien's works it should be him. People just don't like that he is not literally JRR Tolkien "Himself"
