Just watched movie Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky, its based on this book. Is it worth reading?

It's p cool

The book is funnier, it makes more references to the Stalker's drinking habits and Rashka soul.

It's pretty great, if you like sic-fi. It is a also a pretty short book. Give a try.

Book is far better then movie. At least for me. I would even say that it's my favourite book.

I thought it was okay. Kind of meandering but as someone else said it's not very long. I liked the film more personally.

>calling Tarkovsky films "movies"

Read it because of the film. It's pretty great, but in a very different way Loses some of the spiritual elements and trades them for harder scifi. I liked the whole black market aspect. Haven't read it in a while though, and I recall getting real confused at a few parts.

I expected harder sci-fi from the movie (it was my first Tarkovsky so I didn't know any better) so I think I'd be interested in this. Does The Zone contain more elements like the ended up in the same place you started scene featured in the film?

I was dissapointed by how little time was spent in the actual zone. Most of the book revolves around the impact the zone has on people and society.

Still great though, just not what I expected.
