Fan fiction is to writing what 9gag is to the internet.

>> No.5832211

It's bad because it's poorly written, but because something inherent to FanFiction dooms it.

I await the first literary FanFic. It'll happen.

If you had just said 'what does /lit/ think of fanfiction?' it'd be one thing; asking if it's literature is pure trolling. Please go.

Fund it.

It certainly can be, no reason why it can't. But is it? Have you looked at fan fiction? Would you really call it literary? I sure as fuck wouldn't.

Yeah Shakespeare is shit

99% of it is shit

Google defines literature as "written works, especially those considered of superior or lasting artistic merit."
Going by this definition, any written work is literature, but ones that have literary merit makes them more literary than others
So yes, going by that definition, it most certainly is

I haven't read 'em all, so feel free to prove me wrong! Every one I've read has been badly written, though it hasn't been many and they've mostly been linked for laughing-at-them purposes.

The point was to poke humor at the tagline being used conflicting with the concept, which inherently leashes your imagination.

To assume there was any out of hand dismissal of any merit in everything in that category, or even of fanfiction as it is understood today, is just a defensive assumption you made in your eagerness to advocate for it.

Self-insert isn't the problem. That's what most "female literature" has. The problem is that it has a pre-existing framework and what most of them do is just torn the entire thing apart to their pleasure making it a gigantic snowball filled with shit.

Maybe when you've presented an argument to prove that you're right.

FanFiction like Ulysses, Paradise Lost or the Divine Comedy are very good. Most are shit, though.

Best fanfic ever

Capcha - versed oftwaeu

>> No.5833494

The only good purpose fan fiction serves is to fill in the blanks that the original creators of the mythos have neglected. Or to give exposition to interesting ideas that were never fully explored. Even for those noble reasons fan fiction just doesn't satisfy because it will never be canon.

Didn't think so.

reminds me of the creative writing minor I once took

>everyone write decent stuff, not necessarily spectacular, but at least not complete shit
>and then that one guy who wrote league of legends fanfic and literally cites skills and abilities from the game

I was cringing every time we had to discuss his stuff, all the more because I know what he's talking about

>> No.5834275

99.99% of it is shit.

Why? Because there is no quality control. Anyone can publish anything on fanfiction.net. And most of those people are very shitty writers.

With published books, at least it means someone in a publishing company thought it was good enough to nivest some money in it.

>Ever read a quality YA novel?

Yes, when I was 12-16 years old.
