There is absolutely no way that book by Amy Poehler is any good.

>> No.5811454

So /lit/, why are female authors and feminine subjects disproportionately represented here?

Is it because women are more inclined to see their "hobbies" as something to show off to others, and as such are more likely to use websites such as Goodreads to show off their "literary" taste?

I usually think this about any vanity book published by a celebrity, but after finding the Morrisey autobiography readable and even well written in some places... I just don't know anymore...

Yes, and also there are probably more women who actively read as a hobby, and more women who read modern fiction

>The Earth is dying. Darrow is a Red, a miner in the interior of Mars. His mission is to extract enough precious elements to one day tame the surface of the planet and allow humans to live on it. The Reds are humanity's last hope.

Or so it appears, until the day Darrow discovers it's all a lie. That Mars has been habitable - and inhabited - for generations, by a class of people calling themselves the Golds. A class of people who look down on Darrow and his fellows as slave labour, to be exploited and worked to death without a second thought.

Until the day that Darrow, with the help of a mysterious group of rebels, disguises himself as a Gold and infiltrates their command school, intent on taking down his oppressors from the inside. But the command school is a battlefield - and Darrow isn't the only student with an agenda

The school setting gets me every time. Duck you goodreads, inhabited by mostly females with shit taste.

As someone who posts on 4chan, you should already know how retarded and wrong that is.

The correct answer is that housewives have more time to read.

That's because Morrissey is actually a good, or at least clever, Lyricist and storyteller. It made sense that his autobiography was as entertaining and well written as it was. He even wants to write a novel. Most of these celebrities have to hire ghostwriter to even put their words into a readable format.

My sister is a housewife, and her kids spend pretty much the whole day in school.

From what I've gathered of her reading habits, she usually reads from like, 2 pm up until the kids / husband comes home at around 6, and we're not talking Ulysses, Critique of Pure Reason or Pinecone here.

Thankfully, she posts whatever dreck she's reading atm, here's the goodreads page:

At seventeen, Sophia Amoruso decided to forgo continuing education to pursue a life of hitchhiking, dumpster diving, and petty thievery. Now, at twenty-nine, she is the Founder, CEO, and Creative Director of Nasty Gal, a $100+ million e-tailer that draws A-list publicity and rabid fans for its leading-edge fashion and provocative online persona. Her story is extraordinary—and only part of the appeal of #GIRLBOSS.

This aspirational book doesn’t patronize young women the way many business experts do. Amoruso shows readers how to channel their passion and hard work, while keeping their insecurities from getting in the way. She offers straight talk about making your voice heard and doing meaningful work.

She’s proof that you can be a huge success without giving up your spirit of adventure or distinctive style. As she writes, "I have three pieces of advice I want you to remember: Don’t ever grow up. Don’t become a bore. Don’t let The Man get to you. OK? Cool. Then let’s do this

ideally /lit/ reads for: artistic value and thoughtful exploration of the human condition

actually /lit/ reads for: grooming the image of a snobby, edgy pseudointellectual

what casual readers read for: feel good aphorisms, sympathy, and plots

Are you surprised goodreads' list is populated with "based on a true story" novels, pop-culture memoirs, and one-dimensional fiction?
