What you are saying seems to imply a narrative where it is either one or the other. It doesn't have to be, I can certainly think several of the things you mentioned are horrible and still believe that in many respects Western Culture (patent pending) is undergoing a degeneration of sorts.

>> No.5812360

Western culture has been on a slow downhill descent through an uphill climb in both directions through ten feet of snow, for around 6000 years.

"We live in a decaying age. Young people no longer respect their parents. They are rude and impatient. They frequently inhabit taverns and have no self control."

- Inscription on an ancient Egyptian tomb

Socrates on the hypothetical right education for the virtuous city: And so people rediscover the seemingly insignificant conventional views their predecessors had destroyed ... [like] the silence appropriate for younger people in the presence of their elders; the giving up of seats for them and standing up in their presence; the care of parents; hairstyles; clothing; shoes; and everything else of that sort.

- The Republic, Book 4, 425b

"The world is passing through troublous times. The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as if they knew everything, and what passes for wisdom with us is foolishness with them. As for the girls, they are forward, immodest and unladylike in speech, behavior and dress."

- attributed to Peter the Hermit, 1274 AD

My uncle said, “How old are you?”
I said, “Nine and a half,” and then
My uncle puffed out his chest and said,
“When I was your age… I was ten.”

- Shel Silverstein, "When I Was Your Age"

I posit that the great degeneration is the end of the secure career out of college, the end of the expectation of economic instability, and the increase of economic inequality reaching 19th century levels.

People believed that the 1920s, the 1960s, 70s, and 80s were also times of degeneration. If you go back too far, the /pol/fags would probably not be satisfied with their lot in life as a peasant farmer with a life expectancy of 20.

It's rosy eyed as fuck, and why the 50s of all periods? The 50s was the very start of decline in America. It was the advent of television that lent to the great fragmentation of norms, and the development of the nuclear family which was really the destruction of the community. The 50s, the post-war period, was the dawn of that new age. Anything admirable from that period was a hold-over from another period, already in decay.

another protip: degradation of religion is a big part of it. capitalism would work fine in a christian society, with voluntary charity and respect for others. When you think people are being racist and saying its the 'jews', the worst ones are usually jewish or atheist, as their ideology allows them to exploit others for their own personal gain.

So you can't say stuff today like shipping jobs overseas, sweatshops, grueling hours, etc is a natural end of capitalism, its a bastardization of it when in the hand of those without morality.

You stupid faggot. It's as if you believe Capitalism and Christianity are compatible. And I don't mean

But that capitalism, especially our advertising rich one, has no room for community. The "degradation" of American society is nothing but the erosion of community. First it was reduced to family. welllllll Satan, I agree that capitalism isn't beneficial or totally compatible with christianity, but I'm saying in the wrong hands it goes to shit way faster, people who wouldn't think twice to pollute the environment/use children/etc to make money. And this degradation of morality is a direct attack from marxism, which views the family and religion as obstacles to be overcome. Sorry, faggot. Animals have a learned nature as well. That's why you can raise an animal and it won't eat you.

Yeah, we have *some instincts*, but those are not far reaching, nor as complex as you desperately want them to be. Just ask Genie if she needs an inspiring leader.

unfortunately, calling me stupid and offering no points does not count as an argument.

Marx did call for the abolishment of the family, its seems like you haven't even read anything of his.

From the Communist Manifesto:

>Abolition [Aufhebung] of the family! Even the most radical flare up at this infamous proposal of the Communists.

>On what foundation is the present family, the bourgeois family, based? On capital, on private gain. In its completely developed form, this family exists only among the bourgeoisie. But this state of things finds its complement in the practical absence of the family among the proletarians, and in public prostitution.

>The bourgeois family will vanish as a matter of course when its complement vanishes, and both will vanish with the vanishing of capital.

>Do you charge us with wanting to stop the exploitation of children by their parents? To this crime we plead guilty.

>But, you say, we destroy the most hallowed of relations, when we replace home education by social.

Also, we can raise an animal without it eating us because we choose and selectively breed ones with domestic attitutes, so now we have dogs, which are distinct from wolves. But you are free to raise a lion from birth and see if it doesnt eat you if you forget to feed it.

And by capitalism in someone's hands I mean head of corporations obviously.

The Communist Manifesto was issued in 1848. Do you have any idea what the average conditions of a working class family was in Britain at that time? Families had to send their children to work in mines to afford to eat as soon as they could work. The abolition of that form of "family" was entirely desirable.

i'm not the person you're responding to.

have you ever heard zizek tell his joke "my fiancee is never late. as soon as she is late, she is not my fiancee!"

being christian, in an objective sense, requires a person to literally follow in the way of christ, a person who said blessed are the poor, woe to the rich, commanded a young rich man to give away his material possessions and follow him, that you can serve God or serve mammon. so when a self-described christian does not give his or her wealth up to the poor, you can be sure you're not dealing with a christian.

>corporate greed

no need for an adjective, crony capitalism, corporate capitalism, mom and pop capitalism, it's all capitalism.

actually the most interesting thing to happen since 1848 is that capitalism itself is abolishing the family, as in, the widespread mimicry of the bourgeois nuclear family, of dynastic succession of wealth - because working class people can't afford to live that way

>implying those passages speak about the elimination of the family

Do you remember several posts back when I mentioned the nuclear family as an element of social destruction? Probably not, you seem pretty fucking dense. It is that family which deserves and requires destruction for the creation of a truly whole community again. But that sort of destruction is not the state we see today. The erosion we see is one in the opposite direction. Family and fraternity has not expanded, it has shrunk to nonexistence. Withered away by modern media. The state of capitalism is not the result of scheming "cultural Marxists" (I know, hard to believe that a made up movement has made up influence). It is the opposite.

Marx may have called for the elimination of a certain type of family (hence he doesn't say family most of the time he says "bourgeois family" a hint that maybe, just maybe, he's talking about something more specific than parent-child relations). But that is simply not the elimination of family which we see today.

>Also, we can raise an animal without it eating us because we choose and selectively breed ones with domestic attitutes, so now we have dogs, which are distinct from wolves. But you are free to raise a lion from birth and see if it doesnt eat you if you forget to feed it.

I'm not a Marxist, in fact I'm right-wing, but I don't think people worked 90% of the day in the USSR, except in labor camps. In fact, a major problem the USSR had was that they had provide work to everyone and there wasn't enough work to go around, so they had to make up bullshit jobs.

But anyway, it would be better for many people on posting on 4chan to be working instead, no matter how you figure it. A lot of them are recluses, internet junkies, and aspies, and you can't fix that with liberal mollycoddling.

'Bourgeois' doesn't even mean anything anymore. Marx applied it to mean those who own the means of production, now the left just uses it to mean anything that doesn't conform to their neurotic value system.

Communists who haven't read Marx meme him for the same reason reactionaries who haven't read Evola meme him, it lends some sort of intellectual veneer to otherwise unsophisticated political beliefs. It's not so much about the arguments either of them made, it's about making one's beliefs 'valid', as in not stupid stoner neckbeard politics.
