/lit/, I've been reading this, and I'm around halfway through (they just found the underground bunker with all the food and shit, which was a wonderful break.)
And oh God, it some of the most soul-crushingly depressing shit I've ever read. I can't even quite pinpoint why, but it just makes me wanna ball up in the corner and wimper.

How did /lit/ feel about this book?
Also itt more soul crushing literature.

I agree. I was sobbing like a bitch by the end.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close was also pretty damn depressing, and is the only other book I can think of that moved me to tears so easily.

I enjoyed it as it reminded me of Fallout 3.
Soul crushing literature? Of Mice and Men, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, perhaps Nineteen Eighty-four, Perhaps Things Fall Apart, Kaffir Boy.

I just read 1984, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, & The Road in that order this month. :(

I've read Cuckoo and 1984.
Cuckoo wasn't too terrible. 84 left me with this queer semi-optimism, but yeah it was pretty soul-crushing in sections.

Also, I recently watched Up In the Air. Good movie, by my account. But that ending... fuuuuck, man. Is it like that in the book?

Read Kaffir Boy. It's a really good book which I would have never read had I not seen District 9.

I thought mice and men had a happy ending, he was happy when he died. ofc, he didn't deserve it, and the guy he killed did, but now nobody can taint his little retard soul =P

This book left me with many questions.
I loved the description of the burnt-out world. Such a beautiful scenery drawn by synaesthesia. It had an interesting way of carrying out the dialogues between father and son.

Who here has ever read a book by George Orwell that is NOT Animal Farm or Nineteen Eighty-four?

The Road was alright. The main reason McCarthy won a Pulitzer for this piece was to make up for the crap that Blood Meridian got when it was first released.
