One of my friends recently recommended I read a book called "Confederacy of Dunces"

Is it worth checking out or is he full of shit?

bumping for your opinions

See - I was recommended the exact same book.

Did a bit of research, asked around to other people I know, they all said they liked it/loved it. I read the book and fuckin' hated it.

>> No.570129

Maybe it's for really boisterous people or something. Tucker Max loved that book. I guess if you've never seen people, as portrayed in the book, then you might find everyone novel and exciting. But, for me, it was like a painful family reunion.

I liked it a lot. A good read indeed

thats what Im afraid of

everyone else I've asked said they loved it. Im not sure if its a case of "Everyone else liked it and I enjoyed it" or if its legitimately good

>> No.570137

I liked the concept, and some of the book's descriptions are really funny.

However, I hated the plot. It was all over the place and ended up going nowhere.

I didn't like it much. It was too self-conciously sly.

like Douglas Adams?

>> No.570179

Read the first chapter and decide if you want to know more about these people or whether you just find the whole thing obnoxious and terrible.

Personally, I loved it and found parts of it uncannily similar to my own life.

If Fortune has spun her wheel so that you hath been pointed in that direction, then the most logical conclusion is to read it. Och, my pyloric valve!

It's a chuckler, not a loller. Pretty entertaining read with a decent bit of depth, but I didn't really find it to be the masterpiece it's cracked up to be. 8/10

It's a good book.

Fuck you brah, the book was fucking hilarious, I can't recommend it enough. The description of New Orleans is incredible (especially if you have been this since Katrina hit) and while I agree that the plot doesn't really go anywhere, thats not the point of the novel. Its the characters, its Ignatius' escapades into the world making the world a shitshow, its the black dude (whatever his name is) being the voice of reason behind his southern drawl and in front of racism.

In the middle of it. About to quit.

well, instead of criticizing people who brought up their own reasons for disliking it, why don't you come up with some points of your own.

What did you like about it and why?

>> No.570566

I just finished reading it a few days ago and enjoyed it. Can anyone recommend some similar books?

I don't really know any boisterous people and I loved it. It was hilarious and awesome.
