Why haven't you read through the entire oeuvre of Michel Houellebecq yet?

Also, which is your favorite?

Haha. I've read three - didn't like Atomized, Platform was OK, but I thought The Map and the Territory was excellent - really bleak to the point of being hilarious

Forgot to mention Against the World Against Life - his critical essay on HP Lovecraft. One of the best books I've ever read

>> No.5696595

Just finished Elementary Particles, probably the most "funny because it's true" book I've read, even though I don't agree with his conclusion in the prologue. Houellebecq is basically the "literary fiction" counterpart of Ligotti except he can't bring himself to be as honest about what we are, he seems mentally troubled enough as it is.

I did, my favourite is Les particules élementaires, close second is La possibilité d'une île, his last one was pretty good too.

>> No.5697378

The first half of The Map and the Territory is clearly his best.

>> No.5697409

The Elementary Particles was the only book they had at my school's library. I doubt the public library has anything.

I enjoyed it, any recommendations what to read next?

Addendum: surprisingly the public library has The Possibility of an Island and The Map and the Territory

>> No.5697438

Why read Houellebecq when you have /r9k/?

It's basically the same shit.

>> No.5697443

>>5697438
Despite his reputation, I don't think Houellebecq is really misogynistic like /r9k/.

>> No.5697632

Is Ligotti a meme now since that show?
Because he's absolute shit

>> No.5697708

I've only read Extension du domaine de la lutte and it was an enjoyable read. Had the atmosphere of Notes From Underground and was engaging enough.

>> No.5697716

I read The Art of Struggle on the train journey home yesterday nad it was ok. I laughed pretty much loud when I turned a page and the first line of the next poem was "you are so alone"

I read at least one of his book a year since 10 years. He was my first "red pill" when I was 16. I also find him really close to what you can read on r9k.

Didn't like his last novel but still happy to know he'll publish something soon. He said he already has the title so that's a good sign.

If you understand french, I'd suggest listening to "le klub des loosers".

"Extension du Domaine de la Lutte". A little depressing though

I liked all of them. My favorite two are Atomized and Map and Territory. The one most fun is Platform.

>>5696599
Possibility of an Isle is probably the one I found the weakest. It reads like he just haphazardly threw together anything he had at some point to keep the moneymachine rolling - which was probably really what was going on. On the other hand it has some of his most poetic bits in it. And the demise of Daniel in the end is heartwrecking.

>>5696479
That one also really surprised me. And then explained a lot about his books to me.
