lmao, listen i love literature and read a lot, but i dont like this gooey notion nowadays that fiction is self-help. if you're depressed and lonely, i cant think of a worse way of fixing that than staying inside and reading a book. unless it's already one of your favorite books and you know it affects you in a certain way, reading some canonized novel is a hilariously dumb way to administer self-help.

I think they can into /lit/. Most of them are classics and good books. But aren't they just /fit/? I mean, that board is just for fitness and health, not for becoming an alpha male (which is a meme on /pol/ too) or the Übermensch.

Still don't know if most of them have read those, since all what they post is
>mirin'
>we're all gonaa make it
>LONDON
>Natty Gooby
>Jeff pls go
>LE COOKIES ARE READY
>DYEL

That said, they really lift and go to the gym, unlike many boards that don't do what they are supposed to (for example /pol/ which most of the time discuss lel niggers and paranormal shit).

Going off topic, why many boards are doing this? Is this whole board culture now a real thing? I've seen many boards 'secede' from 4chan, like /k/ doing OperatorChan and /mu/ doing MusikChan.

>>5665115

>unless it's already one of your favorite books and you know it affects you in a certain way

Why is it that the experience of reading a new book never matches reading an old book that you already know? How is this always a necessarily lesser experience? How are these two forms of experience even comparable?

I'm interested in hearing your reasoning, because I've a sneaking suspicion that you're a confirmation bias peddling retard.

this is lit worship, in which canonized books take on the magical therapeutical properties. don quixote, war and peace, moby-dick -- all wonderful, rich stories. at the same time, though, they're just freaking books. ive read them, they're great. but what do you think they're gonna do? what do you think's going to happen if you read great expectations?

Sueña el rey que es rey, y vive
con este engaño mandando,
disponiendo y gobernando;
y este aplauso, que recibe
prestado, en el viento escribe,
y en cenizas le convierte
la muerte, ¡desdicha fuerte!
¿Que hay quien intente reinar,
viendo que ha de despertar
en el sueño de la muerte?
Sueña el rico en su riqueza,
que más cuidados le ofrece;
sueña el pobre que padece
su miseria y su pobreza;
sueña el que a medrar empieza,
sueña el que afana y pretende,
sueña el que agravia y ofende,
y en el mundo, en conclusión,
todos sueñan lo que son,
aunque ninguno lo entiende.

Yo sueño que estoy aquí
destas prisiones cargado,
y soñé que en otro estado
más lisonjero me vi.
¿Qué es la vida? Un frenesí.
¿Qué es la vida? Una ilusión,
una sombra, una ficción,
y el mayor bien es pequeño:
que toda la vida es sueño,
y los sueños, sueños son.

i'm sure the thread discussion on /fit/ for the making of that picture was a bit more in depth and had a lot of criticisms towards the popular suggestions.

the whole getting girls to mire your intellect thing only applies to a minority on /fit/, and that was probably inspired by frank yang's older antics.

I'm sure lifting for awhile did influence a lot of them to look towards reading also, but i doubt the motive was to attract women. most people on /fit/ know by now that if you're not dealing with whores then you need a good personality rather than literary knowledge to attract those worthwhile
