hey /lit/

I'm reading this.

It is silly.

>> No.566252

almost as silly as following a religion founded by a science fiction writer

That's a pretty epic cover there, bro. It would make a great SYFY original movie.

i've read some of Hubbard's work and he comes off as a borderline-functional Asperger's. reading about people who met him, he frantically makes up lies to cover his own inadequacy, even if the lies are nonsensical.

i have a brother in law like that. ;/ i really hope he doesn't start a religion.

>> No.566890

Hubbard is fun to read if just because the man had some serious mental illness which he fails miserably to hide from his readders.

I actually had a guy in a suit come up to me in downtown two days ago that thrust a bunch of leaflets into my hand. "There you go, brother." Then he was gone. It was a ticket to see a special showing of Dianetics: The Movie, and an invitation to the local Scientology center

whats the big deal with scientology? why does everyone hate them so much? they're the world's greatest trolls. They make everyone re-evaluate the power religion it granted just because they say they are in contact with a non-existent supernatural force

I was thinking about this the other day, trying to explain the cult of Anonymous to my family. From what I know, they hate Scientology because it is so blatantly, ridiculously fake, and yet people still believe it. On top of that, the religion is an active enemy of free speech, something internet libertards have a major boner for, and also exploit their followers for money

Just guessing

It's because they're so litigious.
Their legal department basically has the power to outlaw anything critical of them, also, they infiltrated the IRS and murdered a bunch of people in the 60's and 70's and pretty much got away with it.

Um. Sauce on those latter two claims, please.

Not poster, and can't confirm the IRS, but the murders are well documented and can easily be found at any number of websites.

They commit crimes. They bribe the police of every state they operate in, they get away with unthinkable amounts of tax evasion. They con people in to joining their church, they concoct scenarios designed to put their initiates into unstable mental states, and then they milk them for every penny they're worth. Once they've done that they force worshippers into debt. And they do force them, because they have legal authority to trap anyone who enters their buildings inside that building for whatever amount of time they want to. They beat people. They lock them in rooms. They deny them medication. They can do all this and more because NO ONE knows what the fuck happens inside their walls. This post? Based on the "unsubstantiated rumors" spread by people who left the church. No authorities are allowed inside church premises. No legal act against them has ever made it to court. They have fucking sniper towers protecting their largest churches, and they aren't facing outward, they're facing inwards. They trap people inside their fucked up complexes and bill them for so much money that their victim either works for them for life or they commit suicide. If they commit suicide, the "church" takes the bill to their immediate family. They have entire books written by church officials detailing how best to slander, defame and bankrupt their enemies.

They are no fucking laughing matter.

No way. I don't believe it. Nothing like that could exist in the United States without being destroyed by public outcry
