Hello there /lit/tle boys, I was wondering if you could help me with my choice of reading material for tonight. I need something to distract me from my best friend being expelled from school on rumors of drug trafficking, and being rejected from the summer program that I was supposed to be a shoe in for. Also some other stuff. It hasn't been a good week.

Here's what I have in my room. I can do e-books, but I'm less likely to get distracted without the computer in my face.

-Shooting an Elephant, George Orwell
-Nausea, Jean-Paul Sartre
-Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand(joke gift from a friend; I've been reading it a few pages at a time, writing slanderous notes all over the pages)
-The Count of Monte Cristo, Alexandre Dumas
-The Book of Genesis Illustrated, R. Crumb
-The Fall of the House of Usher, Edgar Allen Poe
-Kafka on the Shore, Haruki Murakami
-The Year of the Flood, Margaret Atwood
-In the Miso Soup, Ryu Murakami

That's it. Not a great selection, I know. I wish I had some popular science books, but they're tough as shit to find around here.

Help me stave off depression, guys, what should I read?

You know you like it.

In your self-interest. Fucking do it.

Read Lovecraft. Life may be shitty, but at least the Old Ones are still asleep IRL. Recognizing the contrast has to cheer you up.

What Lovecraft specifically? Might not be what I need right now, but I can give it a look.

Maybe you should read famous authors instead like Winston Churchill, JRR Tolkien, or JK Rowling.

Anything in the Cthulhu mythos or shit like Cats of Ulthar. It's his style more than anything, and he stays consistent.
