Is there any word on her next book? Is it still some sort of sci-fi?

I think each of her books have been better than the last (and I liked White Teeth, haven't read Autograph Man) so I'm excited.

I read an article on her written when she was in her mid twenties still and it was talking about how she was a heartbreaker at Oxford and had dramatic fights with her beautiful boyfriends and I think it was meant as a diss at her (the British press are weird, esp about their writers), but it made me love her more.

Did anybody read her recent article in the New York Review of Books about how Manhattan is the best place in the world? It was pretty silly.

I haven't read any of her novels. I've heard that White Teeth is her best and that the others don't really measure up.

No way! On Beauty does a lot of what White Teeth does, but much better in my opinion. NW is very different but is fantastic, her best if I could be objective. I enjoyed White Teeth and it has some of my favorite passages, but she's improved and matured loads since then.

not wearing a hat or some kind of head covering is more strange really, up until the last 60 or so years most men and women wore something on their head at least in some oft he time in America/Western Europe and going back in time/other places/cultures

DFW-fangirl who is also a boring utopianist. Her recent graduation speech was pretty much a copy of Wallace's albeit with added faux-sincerity. A narcissist only stops becoming a narcissist when they've achieved their desired level of success, then they preach to others about the dangers of narcissism, despite these things being the reason they were so ambitious to begin with
