nice trips.
it's being told a story in a human voice which is how humans are wired to rake shit in. some people can be highly intelligent and have difficulty reading.

Every fucking day.

Why?

>Aw naw man I'm new here
No you're not.

>> No.5600103

I never understood why anyone would listen to audiobooks outside of a classroom or something like that.

Reading words is like 80% of the fun.

i think they're like books, only with someone reading them out instead of them being on paper.

why do you keep asking?

It's been proven countless times that more information is retained if you read it yourself rather than have it dictated by someone else.

i am down with audio books but you have to actually be paying attention.
The only effective experiences I've had with audio books were when driving, working out, or during sleep/meditation when i am relaxing my eyes instead of actually reading

>> No.5602146

I use to listen to audiobooks when I was 15 and couldn't understand the text well and always had to backtrack. I don't know, I was a strange kid.

Hearing someone put on quirky voices for characters in the book improves the experience tenfold.

I considered audio books pleb shit for a long time, but I've started to enjoy them somehow.
Sometimes, even if rarely, it enhances the experience. Lovecraft for example is pure audiobook material.
His better stories, read by a good actor, can be atmospheric and terrifying as shit.

>> No.5604441

The only instances where I can justify them is if you are blind or driving.

My eyes were tired and hazy for a while so I jumped on audiobooks. I enjoyed it but I feel that if I tried to get back into it, I would get annoyed at not going my own pace.

I want to start reading audiobooks but I can't because I stopped driving so much and started taking the bus. I can't read because of motion sickness on the bus but I would love to audio read with that time.

>> No.5604533

I like to listen to some lovecraftian stuff when going to sleep.
Especially if there is some music in the background.
The next night I just restart the last passage I remember.

>> No.5604635

I wouldn't use them as a replacement for actually reading, but I do sometimes enjoy listening to books/poetry that I've already read.

"I can't read books anymore; books on tape have ruined me. I need that nice voice. This book has my voice.
I hate my voice."

No, it just takes away from what would otherwise be filled in by the readers imagination.
