Thoughts on this man? And his works?

>> No.5521769

I've read "Whatever", half of "Atomized" and his poetry and manifesto. I like the fact that his writing reads like someone who has reached middle-aged and doesn't give a fuck, but is also intelligent and feelsy at the same time. Pretty cool all round.

>> No.5521791

"Better than Bukowski"? Is this supposed to mean anything?

It's like saying, "thinner than jaw-droppingly obese".

One of the best living continental writers

>> No.5521830

I've only read elementary particles but I really enjoyed it. Thought about picking up Map and The Territory from the library a few days ago but Ive got a bunch of other shit I'm reading, has anyone else read it? Any good?

Same, the attitudes of his main characters are joy to read, I find.

I also like that he doesn't attempt to make his writing over-convulated.

>>5521791
Yes, I know. I just really dislike him. And wanted to be petty for a second, please forgive me.

highly recommended

>over-convulated.
convoluted you mean?
Why did you invent an extra hard word to express your enjoyment of simplicity?

>> No.5521934

>>5521905
"Invent"? You mean "use".
I couldn't think of another word to use, and I wasn't gonna spend like 5 minutes just trying to scratch my head when the meaning would get across anyhow.
Mind sharing a simpler word to use, for future use?

I like his style.

convoluted
it's inside the word you invented

He's really starting to look a lot like Céline.

Oh, that's what you meant. I can see why I'd be considered wrong.
But how come others like this one are acceptable then: overly-emphatic?
Or is that wrong too, and I need to go back to highschool?

>Ultra-Sexist

>Edgelord

>Creepy

Yeah no, Bukowski had style, this guy is just a creep, that takes himself too seriously.

>> No.5521997

>>5521957
Maybe he meant it was convoluted but not too convoluted?

>> No.5522026

>>5521987
I don't know why you need to add overly to another word since it's a word by itself, a sort of useless one too since it could be replaced by the context most of the time.

Think of mixing words in a similar way the german do it, only when there isn't a word that says the same and if it sounds cool. I really like kulturstaat, that means cultural state, pretty obvious but it works.

>> No.5522037

>>5521997
But adding over means "too much". Like overstated is stated too many times, overlord is the lord above lords, and so on. You can be too convoluted since you're not adding anything to convoluted.

Stop conflating author with narrator you dumb cunt

Duly noted, thanks anon.

As much as I dislike him, he's no "edgelord", he's books are just defeatist.
And shit, why didn't I mention that first? Shit shit shit.

I'm reading Platform right now and really enjoying it. I keep getting erections.

Yes, that too, he has a way to get a man's wood up, I commend him.

>> No.5522326

>>5521739
I've only read Platform.
His other books, how do they compare? Does he change his approach in them? Or is he just a one-trick pony like Bukowski (albeit he's naturally a much better writer)?

it kinda got ridiculous, lost interest when the focus shifted to the police guy

I did enjoy particules élémentaires

I've a sweet spot for his characters.
His prose isn't half bad in my opinion either.
I like the way he shifts around his direction too.

Would recommend to most.
