I just started reading this. I've never seen the movie. This is the first book I've read in a while. What should I expect? Is it any good?

>> No.547537

Make sure you watch the movie too some time

>> No.547545

Can somebody explain to me the point of asking "what should I expect" before reading the book?

Many people are so indoctrinated by 21st century internet dependancy that it's easier for them to ask total strangers and potentially malicious idiots about a book than it is to read the back cover.

Is it any good? This is the first book I've read in a while and I don't want to waste time on a shitty book. I also have The Road by Jack Kerouac, and if you guys give this book a bad review, then I'll read the other one.

yup

The back cover is a comic. It says nothing about the book. God, you guys are malicious...

Thank you. Well, that explained the reason, not the point... still thanks :)

Apparently you've read a couple of pages already, so you've probably figured out whether you like it or not. Unless you don't trust your judgment and are asking us whether it's objectively shitty...
As for On the Road: that's a book one might call objectively shitty :) Still, it's one of my favorite books.
In conclusion: just go fucking read.

I don't like the way it's written, but i'll read it. I was hoping for more feedback. but at least I got something. Thanks. :)

I shouldn't have laughed

I finished it two days ago. Thought it was excellent.

see it as purely symbolic and that's it
mental illness does not work that way IRL

>> No.548468

Apparently the author wrote the first few pages on drugs.

Ken Kesey was pretty much constantly on drugs, so it was probably more than the first few pages.

Absolutely my favorite book ever. It's a really good novel with a really good underlying message. Slow to take off, but once it gets going, it's amazing.

Won't lie, the movie didn't do the book justice.

>> No.549074

this book gives a perfect view of america in the late fifties / early sixties. Kesey was right on the mark there.

it's pretty funny, too.
