Does /lit/ hold any creedence to Aleister Crowley? I am new to it and am getting this book in the mail tomorrow (pic related). Do you believe in magick? (in the sense of crowley's magick)

I like to troll my prude friends with his poem about necrophilia.

I have one book, I can't find it and I can't remember the title, but I remember reading the first few sections and being astounded at his preliminary philosophy about our 'path' or something.

Then it started with the magick and I lol'd and threw that shit in the bin.

I read LaVey's Satanic Bible to educate myself on what that was all about. I'm new to /lit/ too.

I was lead to this by yeats and a few david bowie songs...even though i think yeats disliked the man.

The only people I've seen that are into Crowley over the age of twenty-five are extremely burnt out. Take that as you will.

If you ignore the whole magic parts some of his books are really philosophical and really look at life from a different point of view. Most people just don't understand it (partly because Crowly can be intentional vague to come off mystical and never kind of just says things) but he doesn't just present a system of magic he presents a philosophy of life.

A Moveable Feast? Holy crap I would have loved to see Hemingway's face when he met Crowley for the first time.

my favorite Crowley text is in his diary, "The Magickal Record of the Beast 666". he's describing the effects of cocaine, and remarking "this isn't addictive at all."

the entries go on for about thirty pages, spaced about three minutes apart. "Not addictive at all! Think I'll have some more! Not affected by this in any way! *SNRRRRRT*!"

>>549024
Heh, I kindof hoped that Crowley would be weirdly immune to cocaine. Guess he really was human after all.

maybe he meant it was not physically addictive? idk burroughs said if you cant get coke you just go to sleep and forget obviously has never smoked crack...anyway happy about getting this book

Burroughs went to sleep when he couldn't get coke because he was stuffed with opium or morphine.
