For those of you in the midst of writing or researching and beginning your novel, who is the author that's made the biggest impact on you in terms of your own style and ambitions?

Given what i'm currently researching and planning for, and my own style, i can admit my main man Gene Wolfe has had one of the biggest impacts.

Note that i'm not saying you (and I) are mindless wannabe clones of these men, but let's be honest. You have to read, to write.

My writing has the mysticism and truth of Dostoevsky, the earnestness of Hemingway, and the inventiveness of Joyce. They're all I read.

Flannery O'Connor, bar none. She's incredible. I would kill to be able to write endings like she did.
