It was 9th July 2014, 4:09 p.m. Japan Standard Time.
Outside Bran’s window, there were messy thickets and disturbing Fukushima overgrowths that intruded the “Welcome” carpet in front of glossy hotel glass door.
Bran was sitting comfortably on his couch, watching HBO with Japanese subtitles for the past whole day. He munched on his wasabi, sashimi and salmon sushi. When the commercials came, Bran rubbed his sore eyes entrapped in a solitude of boredom.
He pondered what his A-Level results would be. Perhaps three C’s? Maybe even an A? He wondered whether the examiner would be persuaded all the cheese under his sofa? Sweat ran down his palms. Tension gripped his poor conscience.
He knew he was not supposed to care for his results. He was in middle of a vacation after all, spending his much earned summer vacation. Yet, a shiver still lingered in his thick spine. His stomach exploded into a fit of hunger that needed to be fulfilled by three packs of Skittles and two servings of KFC Chicken Breasts. His throat faced a drought that was quenched by a jug of Sprite. He tried to divert his unease. He took out his frustration by ripping the chicken breasts like a cheetah would rip a deer’s heart out. He gave out a little growl and a burp to signal the end of his delight.
Without any warning, the earth shook like the way his stomach was shaking seconds ago. It was a disaster. The earth swallowed him like he had swallowed his Sprite earlier.

>Why is this painting so popular though?

It portrays a person who is solitary, maybe even a recluse, who still has many favourable features (he appears to be fit, well dressed and attractive).

What he is looking at is something that's "deep for him", meaning that he values great things (which others perhaps do not, they're partying somewhere).

The title could well be "Anon's self-deceit"
