You might have a little further to go however take a look here https://ebooks.adelaide.edu.au/j/joyce/james/j8f/index.html

If the first few pages are understandable and entertaining then you are good to go.

Thumb each page in the book once a night to get that oft-read look and you're pretty much good. Read up on it online and locate the famous quotes so you know roughly where in the book they are.

Other than that you don't really have to read or anything.

No amount of books will prepare you for Finnegans Wake

>> No.5357238

Serious question, if I find this for cheap at a used bookstore is it worth a few dollars? If it's just total jibberish I won't bother, if it's hard but readable though I'll go for it.

Good to fire on your bookcase, guaranteed never to be read.

Seriously, this book is fucked lol

Joyce just raped the world's largest thesaurus, then scraped up and bound the scrambled chunks of word fetus from the abortion clinic floor.

W-w-why would he rape a dinosaur?

The only parts of Finnegans Wake that get quoted are the first sentence, and occasionally the last.

Look at the link in >>5357207 and decide whether it would be worth the money

Yeah man. Finnegans Wake is definitely one of those books to just dive into without any real reference. Joyce was alright, but it's not nearly as intense as they say. No to say, Witch and the Wardrobe. You should be alright man.

Use finwake.com OP.
Makes it far easier.

/lit/ likes to exaggerate the difficulty, you just need a good reference point.
It's a great book and holds some of his best storytelling.
