Legend of the Galactic Heroes is the Legend of the Galactic Heroes of literature.

>tfw it will never be translated

I've read the first one and thought it was decently enjoyable. Are any of the other books worth the time?

>> No.5318196

War and Peace of course

>War and Peace. A little too long. A rollicking historical novel written for the general reader, specifically for the young. Artistically unsatisfying. Cumbersome messages, didactic interludes, artificial coincidences. Uncritical of its historical sources.

This criticsm applies to LogH as well, and further we could plow so much more disdain and criticism on LogH for being an anime (and all the barbs we could throw at it not just for the narrative itself but the technical aspects)

Both equally good answers. And both worth reading.

>> No.5319993

The original six Dune novels.
War & Peace.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
Foundation Trilogy.

It's better. Shakespeare is overrated as literature.
Excellent, but overrated.

The only way Shakespeare should ever be experienced is through performance.

>> No.5320086

LOGH. It was a series of real actual books (not manga) first.

>> No.5320121

>>5318196
lol how is that a proper criticism of War and Peace

sounds like some butthurt literary snob who is mad his favorite book doesn't have the rep W&P does

What's the best complete translation of this?

>> No.5320554

Either Romance of the Three Kingdoms or Asimov's Foundation Trilogy. Dune gets some points because LoGH is somewhat archeofuturistic (on the Empire side). Obviously there are the LoGH novels themselves but from what little I was able to read of them, they're not very good.

I've been looking at translations of Rot3K myself and I walk away thinking the Moss Roberts translation is the best one, but they're kind of pricey so I never got around to reading them. Moss Roberts also has a cheaper single volume edition but its apparently abridged.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

Pic related is the 4th novel of the series I own. Sorry it's not in great quality, there's some nice artwork inside of the Empire soldiers.
