Postmodernism is either a theory that there was an end of grand-narratives or an era without said ground-narratives.
So either you're confusing Derrida with Lyotard or your question doesn't make much sense since it is an era not a personal choice.
It's OK, this confusion comes from English-speaking academia where they threw a bunch of different thinkers in the same box and simplified them to compensate for being late to the game(s).
