Just picked this up.. Personally I enjoy the stream of consciousness style, but it also is a bit mundane. Good thing the book is only like 200 pages!

You shouldn't tell people to kill themselves.

Is this a good starting place for Woolf? We might just end up using this one for the book club.

Personally I had a really hard time with it, and I'm usually ok with "difficult" books

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

It's tough to follow because it's written in 3rd person, but details the inner thoughts of the characters and changes frequently with very little notice. It's extremely well written and if you use sparknotes to follow along in the "story" aspect (which there really isn't) you'll be fine. It's only complicated in terms of structure as the language is very simple.

I'd recommend Mrs. Dalloway. You'll have much more to talk about.

It's as "mundane" as you make it. I didn't find it all that difficult, certainly not as difficult as "The Waves", and it's got a hell of a lot more going for it than Dalloway. An interpretation I generally agree with is that the switches between characters mimic the movement of the lighthouse; it revolves and illuminates everything, everywhere, returning in revolutions to each individual character. For part II to immediately follow the whole dinner party scene I found tragic.

Implying Septimus isn't the most based Woolf character, easily making Dalloway the best out of TTL, TW and Dalloway.
