why do people do this when they clearly don't enjoy it...maybe it's time to get a different hobby?

I wonder this too OP especially the speed reading threads. I don't get it. I started a 200 page book on thursday and I didn't finish it until last night. Who gives a shit? I read another 100 page book after that and today I'll shitpost and maybe read a few short stories tomorrow before I start a long novel another day. Why the fuck stress out over a casual hobby? Pick something interesting and read it when you want to.

I think it's a problem where a person once loved to do those things, but somehow, in the quest for more knowledge or perfection, they got lost. There are some people who learn everything there is to know about a particular hobby/tradeskill and love it all the more. Then there are those who do the same and they feel that some of the magic, the feeling that made them fall in love in the first place, has disappeared. For those, reading and writing become a chore because they're trying to recapture that feeling again.

when I was a kid/teen it was never hard work, it was always a relaxing way to enjoy myself, explore a new world and meet new characters.

Over time it turned into a thing I did for "health" reasons "hurr its good f0r ur brain lolz" and started reading "classics and high-literature" and then it became work, a chore, and slow, tedious...

So basically autistic recluses read war and peace in three days and wonder why they feel sad.

>> No.5280056

Sometimes you need to force yourself to do something you know you'll end up enjoying. Like meeting new people, or lifting.

>you know you'll end up enjoying

this is different, this is like after forcing yourself to do it for a few years you realize it's shit, then complain about it on /lit/

90% of the people here hate reading and would rather chat on chinese cartoon forums than actually read. go figure

The answer is people wanting a hobby that let them avoid interacting with people and also doesn't feel like they're completely wasting their time.

Two powerful motivations.
