Greetings from /mu/

Forgive me for trespassing, but as I offer you some of my factory-processed chocolate chip cookies and milk, I must inquire of what some of your favorite lyrics/lyricists/album's lyrics are.

I find Xzibit's poetry to be especially strong. It allows for both a figurative and a literal interpretation, which drives home how the struggle of America's underclass is not separate from, but part of, the larger fabric of human endeavour.

Folk is the obvious shit OP

Newsom, Cohen, Dylan, etc. I listen to lots of folk so I could send some shit your way if you're interested. Favorite Dylan lyrics are definitely from "It's alright ma, I'm only bleeding." Favorite Newsom lyric is from "Autumn."

Death Grips have great lyrics, and I'm sure you're familiar with them.

Check out (early) Mercury Rev and Robert Johnson. Van dyke parks is probably the best pop lyricst.

one thing you'll find out pretty quickly once you start reading poetry, is that lyrics don't really compare.

haven't been to /mu/ in years but god damn man, the shit they listen too is pretty fucking accessible. If you're seriously referring to electronic music (especially the shit on the /mu/ chart) as "bleep bleeps" then you need to listen to more music.

Cedric of the Mars Volta has some nice lines

"Clipside of the pink-eyed sight,
I'm not the percent you think survives.
I need sanctuary in the pages of this book

gestating with all the other rats,
nurse says that my skin will need a graft.
I'm with pockmarked shapes, the vermin you need to loathe."

Much of what he is saying is nonsense though.

Aesop Rock has some great lyrics.

My favorite song from him is None Shall Pass.

"wither by the watering hole, boarder patrol. What are we to heart huckabee art-fuckery suddenly?"

It seems pretty cryptic though

I mostly just listen to my drum machines or drones though.

But I know you fuckasses mainly listen to hipster indie garbage. After checking out your board, I listened to "in an aeroplane over the sea" and was just baffled. Not really big into the common /mu/ pop and rock stuff, but if I were to call an album of those genres /lit/-tier in lyricism, it would probably be pic related. One of the only rock albums with legitimately good lyrics.

I'm more of a classical and showtune guy. Huge fan of Cole Porter and his musicals. Saw the 2011 version of Anything Goes and so many films based on his works. Listened to a ton of album recordings on his musicals. I'm going to be going to a dinner party at a banquet soon which will honor Cole Porter actually. There will be a lot of musical numbers being performed. His lyrics aren't really all that 'deep' but they're extremely witty and full of interesting and/or obscure allusions and references.
