In the opening lines of the book he says that a Großdeutschland union is more important than economic considerations. That it would be necessary even if it were economically disadvantageous. While everyone else was rattling about this technicality as a stain on the nation's traditional honour, he was seeing right past it to a coherent vision of what Germany should be.

If anyone's read Griffin's theory of palingenesis, Hitler is a really shining example of it, and it's a type of ideology that was unique and uniquely important to the era.
