New Cartography

We've all been capable of love since the beginning
Unaware that our very lives are the spawn of a miracle
Birthed from the same dust as this planet we call home
Still young like an infant from the womb of existence
Oh how surprised will we be when our purpose is revealed
Coming to realize that our bodies align with the stars
Mirroring the cartography of a network of consultations
Realizing we are the map to our own destination
Traveling by the compass of our instinct and anatomy
With new communication dictating our evolution
Escaping both our atmosphere and sense of identity
Abandoning all of the roles we've traditionally played
Open body and open mind reviewing an obsolete museum

Thought Collisions Under The Trees

All of our attractions
And still we feel so alone
I'd try to bury myself within the woodwork
I'd try to make it my home
To listen for a whisper
And try to return the favor
Breaching a line of communication with another thought pattern
A free exchange of consciousness
Two parallel existences indifferent in ideas
And still I'd remain just talking to myself
Underneath the shade of trees

I The Prison Guard

Overbearing conversationalists
Maybe you could speak your mind more thoughtfully
We come off corresponding to fragments
Fractions of fictions that we choose to live
But this bleeds no result, no resolve
Just angst and animosity towards our own point of view
Often what we choose to see
Leads us down a frightening road
Safety can abandon us
Opening a prison cell
Soggy in demeanor
Unwelcoming and uncomfortable
But in choosing to escape ourselves
Breaking free of cuff and chain
The temperamental prison guard unlocks the shackles
And cuff drops from his wrist
No longer bothered by this delusion
I the prisoner
Abandon post and remove my Uniform

Falling In love With A Language

I will address you with my lungs
And still expect a breath of air
Each spoken word's a different verse
Though sometimes sounds the same

I will engage this sometimes circle logic
The relationship between my language and my words
These twisted toungues, they tie the knot
Engaging me to your words

I Was A Giant

I witnessed myself become buried amongst the trees
I was the mountain and I was the sea
Incapable of recognizing myself I motioned
To all life for comfort and fame
I needed to know that I was alive with the rest
But that mist and fog buried me within plain sight
I had become hidden within the world around me
I was a giant

No motion
No given structure
No sound
I was a giant

Safety In The City

I woke up to a backward city
Where everyone seemed to care but that was not enough
We were more than sacred but less than God
Our efforts no longer feeble
Though our convictions were still the same
Throughout all the miles and the mud
We just couldn't seem to see
Despite our short term vision
The things we've seen but never see
The things we needed weren't right in front of us
But were never that far off
Every problematic structure we built
We had built by ourselves
We relied on ancient metaphors
Habitually quoting lines from the books we've read
The same stories our fathers read
The same stories our fathers told before us
Struggling for a temporary peace of mind
But you don't have to be safe to feel safe

Every Old House

I like to think we've all been in this same situation before
So covered in the blanket of self doubt
But how can one man escape the idea of being a shelter
One that houses every ounce of fear and self loathing that resides within himself
A shelter for our inner most fears but a shelter none the less

We lock the doors to our insecurities
Dividing ourselves into separate rooms of personalities we feel comfortable in

We can spend days or even months in one room
Reminiscing over the people we've been and how we don't want to return to that state
Moving on to each room of our houses
Reliving each passing stage of the lives we've lived
Never really realizing how uncomfortable we've made ourselves in our own skin

It's hard to make room for new beginnings when caught up in the space of our past
I guess every old house has something haunting between the walls

More Or Less Relatable To Water

Have you ever felt the stigma of feeling more or less relatable to water
Or just as well some other form of equal background noise
Trying so hard to separate yourself from a pool of anxiety that's forming at your feet
But somehow everything sticks and pulls along with every forward moving step
Dragging along with it a string of indecision
Knowing that all of this is an inescapable quality of your texture
With no perceivable way to smoothen out any rough edges
Following along with this pattern and wondering if parts of you get left behind
Not knowing if they would leave a stain or over time just evaporate
Or questioning weather or not your vary motion erodes the world around you
And would this erosion be considered damaging or just reshaping

Correcting The Worm

I'm alive if you're pushing me
Only alive if you're holding me down

And like a worm I will try to get away
But my spine seems to be holding me still
Try to correct this invertebrate
Or just letting nature take it course
Losing sight of my survivalism
Making circles and chewing my tail

I'm alive if you're shoving me
Only alive if you're trying to keep me down

If you don't I'm afraid I would run away
Like a phantom I would disappear
Reassembling myself at the other side
Reconstructing myself from a mirror image
Correcting the worm wherever needed
Regaining sight of survivalism

I'm alive when I'm pulling away
Only alive if I'm running away

Chasing down an invertebrate
Correcting the worm and rebuilding my spine
Pulling my tail out from my stomach
Figuring out my survivalism
Letting evolution take it's course
Rejoining the human race

An original piece:

In Kingdom

Ho! Travelers gather, here mine tale
Of lord and ladies lost
To the wormwood forest, shriveled and toned
By the hot rays of sun

A thousand limping angels
Hear one hundred deadened cries
A thousand humming warriors
To the drums of war they fly!

Hurt and pained, loved and torn
Do the followers know the truth?
That God is vanquished
And man is here
To tackle king and school

To arms! To arms! Fight the laws
And stumble upon the moon!
For in lunar hopes
And with bowls of oats
Will we at last be in tune

Meditating Muscle Memory

Speaking strictly from my muscle memory
With every dedicated motion that I make
I must confess that I hadn't always known
This very movement is within itself a miracle
A link between timelines
Reconnecting me to my past
Automated actions crossing paths through repetition
A manifested mantra for the body
Constructing a temple within myself
A holy scripture to read with every subtle motion
Becoming more well spoken every time it's read
I meditate this repetition

From The Hands

Counterproductive in the way we move
But I want to heal you starting with the hands
Patiently waiting for you to answer
It's nothing that can be answered with words
You already know the question, it speaks for itself

But you are a miracle
When you are afraid we are afraid
Much closer than you know
We feel you as you breath
Be silent and still child

Naturalisms: Artropoda

I. Prologue
Not a very well known fact:
Every five years
all insects reunite
in the Great Assembly of Anthropoids
to discuss
the future of our gardens.

II. Act I
The cry of the cicada
melts the summer
into liquid discomfort

by these unpleasant lakes
grasshoppers plan strikes
against your father,
his machinery.

III. Act II
These ants
disrespect me
these ants will
eventually
steal our family portraits
they’ll hide our past under the earth
I am sure.

IV. Act III
Termites have brought my house down,
they rejoice in their invisibility.
Ruins and ruins; we find difficult
to express ourselves properly.

V. Epilogue
Every five years all insects reunite in a Great Assembly,
they mostly laugh and joke about our legs and arms.

"Spring" (Or: Shit I wrote while sitting on a bench)

Come sit with me,
underneath.
The little, metal tree over there,
And watch the sun's setting
-So seductive!-
lower than we'll ever dare.
The reds and oranges glistening,
Off the reflective metal
We sit beneath.

The children of this man-made
Eden
Running and laughing in bliss,
Not knowing the life they will,
Eternally,
Never know that they miss.
We'll watch as the rotors go still,
And sigh as the satellite,
Calmly,
Continues down its path so beaten.

So beaten and worn,
Impossible
To escape from its gravity.
Cold comes and the children leave,
Shivering.
We'll stay with great tenacity,
And through memories cleave
To find one from long ago, of
Spring,
No longer accessible.

Come sit with me,
Underneath,
The little, metal tree over there.
It is oh so cold and impossibly dark
Tonight.
If you don't I'll freeze over here,
For the Cleaners to remove from the park,
Silent,
Like the dead beneath.

Dialog of Sand and Sea

Walking an old dirt road
Kicking up sand into my eyes
Into the wind blowing
Buzzing and humming from all directions
Speaking like words from open mouths
Telling stories and singing songs
Saying things I'm not yet ready to hear
So I sit with hand to ear
Pressing my palms to the side of my head
I wont speak for the fear of interception
The small chance that my words are not my own
Spilling ideas I was never meant to have
Forcing foul language onto others
Like smoke without fire
Giving warnings to the illusion of danger
Biting my tongue all along
Swallowing more sand with every piece I chew
Scratching my throat with every swallow
Forcing me to admit my wrong doings
Harmful dialog I never wanted to speak
So I sit quietly just passing time
Hands over head and head between legs
With only the sting of sand in motion
Sickening motion like ships to water
My face now sweaty like salt sprayed air
But I am no ships captain
And this is no sea

Erotic Toaster Poem

In masturbatory glee
The other night
I put my penis in
Everything in sight

Banana peels were fun
But to my dismay
In the disk drive my cock
Would just not stay

Drains were good
The keyhole better
And the ice tray kept getting
Wetter and wetter

And not to seem
An awful boaster
But then i had sex
With the toaster

Down went the plunger
And in went my meat
It felt really groovy
When I turned up the heat

I thrust even deeper
And pressed my attack
I pushed in a bagel
For a post-coital snack

But in case you think
This poem is to amuse
As my toes started curling
Well, out blew a fuse

The shock singed my penis
And forced out my breath
I write this while I pray
For sweet and kind death

The End

The Diving Bird

Look closer, diving bird.
There are no trout in this stream, for there never were.
One may appear only to evaporate like the ducktail-wisp,
feathered water-flip acrobatic you do.
We, the living, are but a phantom bell on hung from an outstretched finger.
We are the cones of light dipping their mouth's from Heaven's shore
to the Earth below.
Nothing knows of this, oh diving bird.
A quiet tone simply rings.

You can hide 'neath your covers and study your pain
Make crosses from your lovers, throw roses in the rain
Waste your summer praying in vain for a savior to rise from these streets
There were ghosts in the eyes of all the boys you sent away
They haunt this dusty beach road in the skeleton frames of burned-out Chevrolets
They scream your name at night in the street
Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet
And in the lonely cool before dawn
You hear their engines roaring on
But when you get to the porch they're gone on the wind, so Mary climb in

Witness
The keeper of the kindling
and the kindly kerosene
Is tearing all the pages
from my beauty magazines

She’s thundering through the halls again
And listing out my faults
She’ll shake and shimmer iron fists
And take us both to court.

She’s gotten to the wine again
It’s dribbling down her chin
She’s stomping to the drawbridge
Now the poltergeist is in

We built her home of sticks and straw
And patted down the thatch
The structure shivers in the storm
She’s looking for a match

Contorting, it waxes and wanes
My face as I hear through the pane
The breathing inside of the rain

No one needs this house since the recession
Alone and unwanted and assembled in haste
Its walls making shape as though by accident
Because "Why Would They Put This Here?"
Still, you can imagine the ghost of a family that
Doesn't even exist yet validating the bare floor
Bounding up the stairs and locking doors
And having arguments that are captured by furniture
I can see the particles hanging in a block of sun
That penetrates the geometry skeleton of the walls
That will become your hair and nails and allergies
And breathe them in and become sad with fullness

Anniceris sat in the square, Hegesias by his side
And piercing through the summer air, a question aimed at life
"What cares have you for your sons, when to my words they leap
No calming air nor sweetened breeze, can ease the woes they keep"

Anniceris had heard enough, and to his friend he posed
A wager set 'tween God above, and Hegesias below
"If it's truth you do espouse, of worthless life you speak
May your pen pour out great gouts, and redden soon these streets
And if when sun dispels the dusk, great Rome's returned to Earth
My kingdom will be yours to keep, and all its Godly worth"

And with their pride and persons set, as both did face their fall
Anniceris went unto a crate, and said 'Come one, come all!'
The denizens of rome appeared, and stood entranced in awe
And with the ink still wet on parch, Hegesias purveyed all

'Dance now children to the end, Dance 'till souls go soft,
Our God has left us to his child,
He once did hold aloft."

The night fell dark, the Angel's wept, the blood of Rome did seep
And through the dark a demon came, and faced the stars at East
Anniceris awoke alone, with death stale in the air
And looked upon the corpse of Rome, and failed to shed a tear
Instead his words rang like a knell, through cold decaying air
"Hegesias make for the courts, and I shall meet you there"
And two minds met amid the death, two privy to the dawn
Anniceris gave all accrued, to the wager did he fall

But Hegesias was merciful, and to his friend returned
The wager, winnings and the work, for which the Romans burned
And 'Death By Starvation' lives on in verse, and dies as did its core
With Hegesias the wisened sage, who Rome let speak no more.
