seeing how this is /lit/, how did you guys do on the reading section of the ACT's? I just got my score back and got a 28 on the reading section. Is this a decent score and how do i raise it?
>tfw only 22 on English section
^ I dont understand how that happened either

I'm getting an engineering degree though, so it's not like those scores matter

I took the SATs, but I imagine the way to get better is the same: read a lot of books and do a decent number of practice tests.

I got perfect scores on the Reading and English. If you really want to improve your scores, buy one of the books with tips and practice tests and force yourself to spend 30-60 minutes working through it a day.

Not really. I was a big reader in elementary school and middle school, mainly of history books. Then I started reading a lot again during my senior year. I got those scores June of my junior year

Near perfect on reading, perfect on the writing (can't remember the scores, plus I took the CAT)

Fucking ombed the math. I never got past a 7th grade math comprehension level, though I had a collegiate reading level by time I was in 4th grade :^)

I've never once used Algebra in my life, so there ya go.

sometimes people who have been out of highschool for quite a while like to relive the glory days of being smartypants in their junior year of high school when act scores could be used to get bookish girl and boys to have sex with them. /lit/ is similar to junior year of high school.

You're fucking subhuman.

If you have two brain cells to rub together and didn't skip all your classes in high school you should be able to get a 34 on the ACT on your first try without preparation.

I took the SAT once:
800 reading
750 math
730 writing
I spent most of my study time practicing math as it was my weakest subject. I have always been strong when it comes to reading comprehension.

34 on reading, 28 math, 27 or 28 science, 32 English. 30 overall.

Ironically I'm majoring in finance rather than English or philosophy cause econ and the money system is interesting and more marketable then philosophy, though I still read in my spare time.

state university (cheap, graduate fast, can live at home)

also everyone applying to top universities has those stats or better so it is really not that helpful

>> No.5217700

I got a nasty runny nose when I took the ACT, and although I brought some tissues, they were in my pocket, and I felt like every time I reached into my pocket to get one I would be accused of cheating, so I mostly tried to wipe the snot on my sleeve or "grab it" between my thumb and index finger and then smear it across my pants, around the back of the knee. Horrible experience... I still managed a 34 overall, and I think I got a 35 for reading or something. I am inclined to believe that the ACT and SAT are bad predictors of success in life, since my life is wank.

>> No.5217707

I'm so fucking embarrassed of my SAT scores. I want to retake it but it's been four years (took it at 16) and it feels like cheating. 780 reading, 530 math, 520 writing. I didn't write an essay. At all. Based medication makes me think I could do so much fucking better now. It matters to me si much; it's pathetic.

the sat is somewhat well correlated with general intelligence. the act slightly too but less so (it tests more on knowledge).

anyway i am the 2330 guy above and I went to state university and now i am graduating soon but am probably mentally ill and don't anticipate myself being remotely successful so, yeah,

general intelligence really just doesn't correlate that well with 'success' I would imagine.

Admittedly, I was a really shitty student in high school. I just graduated and only NOW am I feeling the drive to study and read day in and day out. I find little fun in doing anything besides studying physics or math. I'm going to likely retake the ACT. I'm not going to college for a whole year so if I up my ACT score which I will almost surely will, I will have more options in college.

Personally, when I was in high school, I always thought AP scores were more important. I left high school with six AP credits, depending on the college.
