was just about to make a thread on the same book.

Am I a pleb because I don't get this?

I mean I appreaciate the moments of vast lucidity but then others are just junk - maybe that's the point

btw which order are the chapters recommended to be read in?

Now you know how I felt when I read Ulysses.

The fuck was that script-format chapter?

i read ulysses and actually thought it was better - I mean I didn't feel like i desperately needed to re-read it to glean anything extra from it. Not to say that I understood it completely, far from it, but I was satisfied with what I had.

The opposite than what I got from naked lunch. It is short book so I have read twice already, and as of yet understand very little. The changing formats aren't that bothersome but I still don't see their value in a great way. The main thing is the order. I can't tell if it is chronological or not and what is reality and what is not. An example of the peculiar sort of blur is when we meet Docotr Benway for the first time and all the patients escape - I assume that didn't really happen and was some hallucination of the narrator as he was undergoing some sort of detox treatment or something

i suppose disorientation is the aim

Burroughs was thoroughly disturbed. Doesn't discredit his genius. Nigga what you on?

Am I the only one who thought this book became dull after the first 150 or so pages? Although I admire Burroughs on a personal level, this book became

Circe? One of the easiest chapters of Ulysses, literally a drama in which the characters dreams (which are a bit Freudian to say) are projected to the action.

The same thing happens with The Wild Boys. It starts out with a ton of interesting characters and images but devolves into "rectal mucous" and "vegetable lust".

Had to shelve it.

All there really is to "get" is that the novel is supposed to be incoherent, funny, slightly disturbing, and artsy. Just read it like you would watch Tim and Eric.

You've read a raport from the Interzone son.
Letter from the dark side. You've read something gross and great at the same time. Let it settle, after a while you might actually learn to enjoy it, or even love, just like me.
