I used the Ian Johnson translation. I think Kafka is a strong enough writer that you aren't going to lose that much reading a translation.

on a side note and not to derail, but:

Does the apartment in "The Metamorphosis" represent a logical layout or is it abstract?

The map on layout on google I don't think is correct.
