What is the minimum age requirement to begin reading Kant's Critique of Pure Reason assuming I've read all the necessary preceding books?

About a month. I was preparing a lecture series on him. Didn't do reading of much other stuff besides Schopenhauer's comments on Kant and a little Fichte.

>>5171169
You really don't need those, really in order to get the most you might want to go over some Hume and Descartes but it's really not required.

>> No.5171455

There isn't an age requirement for reading philosophy, silly.

You just have to be over 5'11''. Otherwise it will all go over your head.

>read all the necessary preceding books

There are none for any philosophy book. Almost all philosophy books explain what they are, their goal, their themes and the arguments they're responding to.

I don't think you get a good contextual foundation by jumping straight in IMO. I read the philosophy books in order and I had a much easier time understanding them because I understood all the ideas they were referring to, with details included. And I'm not going to just Standford wiki it the ideas either. This is what plebs do.

Everybody has their own pace. You really oughta read Schopenhauer's Appendix from World as Will after you read the Critique, though.

For those struggling with the Critique and looking for a good secondary source, Copleston's History of Philosophy series has an excellent volume on all three of Kant's Critiques and his ethics.

>>5170437
Honestly don't bother with it. Kant's works that aren't the 3 critiques are more enjoyable. Anthropology and Perpetual Peace will give you a good viewpoint of Kant.

I wonder if we have any actual evidence that Kant was a virgin. The only one I see is that if he had sex once he must have also had sex every day of the year.
>>5170437
You don't really need much preceding books, as Kant takes a lot of time to redefine his terms. Your only potential problems would be not understanding where the issues come from. Get an annotated edition and you should be fine.
The only reason you'd only need to read other philosophical works is to become more familiar with a particular style of writing and kind of inquiry. Read one or two shorter Kant works (Groundworks of the Metaphysics of Moral and Idea of History from a Cosmopolitical viewpoint for instance) if you're really adamant about preparation.

As for the age, any older than 14 included will probably be enough. It's more a matter of "this is/isn't my stuff" than "I'm (not) old enough".
