Can anyone recommend me the best of Polish literature?

I've been trying to learn some of the language and learning through books is usually most optimal for me.

I don't mind if the books are or are not translated into English.

Pan Tadeusz, kurwa.

Really underrated national Epic, in that it's never really discussed.

Pan Tadeusz is a cool poem that's venerated as an immensely important piece of national literature (though the first lines are Litwo! Ojczyzno moja! kek), taking place before Napoleon invades Russia.

Talking of Polish Napoleon lit, add Jan Potocki's The Manuscript Found in Saragossa. It kinda defies summary, it's best calling it the Polish Decameron.

anything not written by Lem is crap

poland can't write for shit, just read russian if you want slav or german if you want to see cultura progress of the west

You've never read a Polish author other than Lem have you.
Sure, Polan hasn't been as prolific in creating classic literature like Germoney or Russia, but there are a few gems worth seeking out.

Bloody retarded. Polish Romantiscism is easly one of best country-specific and country-centered romantic periods. So fertile. Anything by any of Three Bards (especially Słowacki) is worth reading + Norwid's poetry.

>>5129512

I don't recommend Gombrowicz tho.

It's greatly overlooked.

Emotions are soul's gateway and romantic authors knew a lot about human's psyche, even in a psychological sense. Romantiscism is an aesthetic experiance primarly and I get why insensitive people can't comprehend it.

>no one mentions Sapkowski

Seriously, if you want to learn the language, read something current. I know it's funny that I would mention fantasy here, but it's full of good dialogues and interesting wordplay while being written in modern language.

Polish Romantic literature is one of the coolest things ever. Romanticism is often associated with Nationalism, obviously, but Poland was finally eaten by the Partitions right as the Romantic period dawned, so their literature was the primary vehicle of not only Polish nationalism, but the birth of nationalism and even the idea of a Polish nation itself. You can basically watch the century-long evolution of the self-consciousness that was finally born in the 20th century.

Some of the forms it took were really interesting, like Sienkiewicz's historical fiction, especially his Trilogy.

Might be a bit beyond a new learner but still worth keeping in mind.

Witold Gombrowicz and Stanislaw Lem definietly. As for pre-20th Century, I didn't like anything much, you may try to read "The Doll" by Boleslaw Prus
