Do you buy your books or borrow from the library?

buy from second hand shops

Both, and download.

It's a matter of how important it is to have on hand and how quickly I want to read it.

I have a job that pays a lot and I like physical books. I'm sure I could cut $1500-2000 of spending per year if I just read all books on my kindle, but I'd rather spend it on something I liked.

I purchase my books. I don't like the idea of having to return something at some point. It bothers me in the back of my mind while reading.

Plus, I like to fill out my bookshelf.

>> No.5127275

Short of making a new thread this is the best place to ask.

Where is the best place in the UK to buy hardbacks?

I am moving and getting a new bookshelf and want to get hardback copies of my favourite books (I'll have them facing outward to break things up) and would prefer not to entrust the Royal Mail with the delivery of them. Waterstones have a few hardbacks for classics I want but things like Blood Meridian and Catch 22 are obviously going to be hard to find.

Other than the return date being a bother sometimes, I don't see why you would buy books more often than get them from the library

Urban rats live in sewers and wild rats live in prairies. They only come to houses for food. Rats are minimalists by nature. They like open space.

Of course because eveyone is a college undergrad that can spend more than a minute a day to clean. Minimalism is the result of laziness.

>Clutter is comfy

I sort of agree. I like to sit in corners facing the door because I feel more protected and relaxed, but my mind is anything comfortable.

"I had three pieces of limestone on my desk, but I was terrified to find that they required to be dusted daily, when the furniture of my mind was all undusted still, and threw them out the window in disgust."

a) why would i want to read game of thrones?
b) why would i pay full price for game of thrones instead of buying it second hand for a fraction of that?
c) why would i buy all of game of thrones at once rather than one at a time when i don't even know i like it?

Are you undocumented, or did you just never get a driving license? You can get a state ID card, even if you aren't old enough to drive. If you are from a foreign country, you can use that nation's ID card or passport as a form of picture ID at a library, even if your passport isn't valid. The library won't report you to INS.

>> No.5128033

>>5128013
I only finished that book last week but I already feel it made more of an impact on my life than many others. I've always been a fan of minimalism but he articulated it brilliantly.

"Superfluous income can only by superfluities" was something I needed to read. I spend way too much on shit I don't need simply because I can, but I feel worse for having all that stuff strewn about the place. I'm moving soon and I plan on being ruthless and getting rid of most of it.

>> No.5128069

>>5128033
That's a good plan. In addition to getting rid of most of the trash before you move, you should only unpack things at the moment of use when you're in your new place. Seeing what remains boxed after a few weeks or months gives you a good sense of what useless possessions you have left.
