Why dont you just explain what the book is about /lit/ ?

>> No.5119466

What book are you referring to?

>> No.5119475

No one asks.

Coming up with a cogent description takes time. I am not a quick thinker and when I wing it I usually give the wrong impression.

It's about a man who falls in love with a woman, and he's kind of old, and she's kind of young... no it's not a filthy porno! In fact it's very well written and many people call it a cla... No, it doesn't even portray it in a good light! Please don't call the cops, I didn't do anything!

>> No.5119620

It's a 15th century compilation of Arthurian legends, a starting point for many derivative works.
But don't get me wrong, I'm not reading fiction, this is very intellectual.

I'm fed up with putting thought and effort into my thoughts/impressions/opinions/feels/etc. about a novel and being met with a lazy joke or complete silence.

>> No.5119664

It's a fucking gay furry romance ebook, I can't not tell them it's just a new Banks novel

>> No.5119691

It's about two men, and a woman, who are attempting to prepare the first men and women to live forever. Because it is such an early technology, less than seven people are being chosen to be immortalised, and it's about their struggles and tribulations as they go through accomplishing such a thing.

My analyst told me that my ability to describe books is legitimately my best quality.

Because if I'm reading genre fiction, I don't want to be seen as 'nerd' or 'neckbeard'
And if I'm reading a classic I'm ashamed that I'm reading it only now and still haven't made it through the canon at 25+.
And if it's 'edgy' stuff like Palanhuik or Ellis I don't want to be seen as edgy. I read it for lulz.
And if a book has lewd scenes or themes, I don't want to be seen as perv or a slut because girls aren't supposed to read those kinds of things, just like they aren't supposed to poop
Also if a book is critical of religion, evev a bit, I don't want trouble, because I saw some of my coworkers read Christian magazines.
And if a book is obscure or po-mo, or something hipsters currently read, I don't want to seem pretentious and be associated with hipsters.
But mainly because of social anxiety and autism.
And because FOR GOD'S SAKE, CAN'T YOU SEE I'M TRYING TO FUCKING READ HERE, IF I WANTED TO TALK TO YOU WOULD I BE STARING INTO A BOOK? JUST GET OFF MY DICK AND MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS, YOU NOSY SLAG/FAG.

>implying it stops them asking
I mainly read form my smartphone in public settings and still get asked. Today some smelly old cow (not a cliche, she really smelled and looked like a hobo) plopped down next to me on the bus (disregarding a lot of other empty seats for some reason), tried to crane to look at my phone's screen and asked what I was reading. I haven't been so close to hitting someone in ages.

We've got a live one here.

>it's basically this Asian dude writing about his life and what he does for a whole year or so.
>w-what does he do? uh, MDMA, coke, and Adderrall, and he marries this chick after knowing her for like a month
>n-no it's not a romance novel, it's a neorealist tale of a man's life doing nothing important
Well, I've never actually met anyone who knows Tao Lin outside of /lit/ (and people irl who go on /lit/). When I was reading Taipei on the shuttle from my apartments to campus I thought someone would notice it, but apparently absolutely zero people outside of this board know of Tao Lin and his works. Even the most tumblr of tumblr kids seem oblivious
