I, too, think that's true enough. Can't be denied that there was some thought put into those, however shitty the books themselves are.

I won't ever understand what's with all the people loving kitsch covers, not just fantasy ones. OH LOOK THERE'S A DRAGON AND FLAMES, IT ALL LOOKS VERY DARK AND ALSO I WEAR HOWLING WOLF MOON SHIRTS

In some cases I even enjoy the absence of blatant cover "art", pic related.

Yes it is. But the pic isn't doing those little paperbacks much justice (they are really black). There are similar ones for each Hesse book, alternating in font colour and the symbol at the bottom, and I think they look awesome together.

I agree with your forced symbolism thing, but I really liked what Meyer had to say about the cover to New Moon. This is from her website q&a:

>What kind of flower is that on the cover, and what does it mean?

>That is a ruffled tulip. As for the meaning... If you've read the Twilight FAQ, you know that the apple cover had a lot of meaning for me, and I was an active part of the covering process. However, that experience is more the exception than the rule in the publishing world. Something to keep in mind if you intend to embark on a career as a writer: lots of things you might expect to be under your control are not. Covers, for example. Those are mostly up to the publisher and the marketing and sales departments. So I don't know what the tulip means—I didn't have anything to do with this one.

I love how all the Twilight fans have to ask Meyer what her books/symbolism mean. They can't interpret shit for themselves.
