>I think all aspiring writers should remember this: good writing should be easy for the average reader to understand. I read a lot and I am fairly certain I am of above average intelligence and I really struggled with this book. That's a bad book.

But that's a legitimate point. The growing abandonment of not only making characters likeable, but also even sympathetic to even the smallest degree, is a negative effect.

Not that other anon, but I read a negative review on gooreads about a book on the history of Amazon that basically boiled down to "OMG that is a terrible place to work, 2/5" as if the book has caused the place...

And I don't think there's a growing abandonment towards making characters unlikeable, maybe a bigger awareness towards having your characters less black/white and more morally gray
