Timshel!!!

I know the feel OP, Steinbeck does that to me, so does Larry McMurtry and Cormac. In case you can't tell, I'm from west Texas.

I think of that feeling as a kind of nostalgia from the atmosphere. To me, its the difference between liking and loving a book.

>Larry McMurtry

Yeah some of the scenery in blood meridian really gave me the feels

like real hard

>> No.5091749

Convoluted, practically messageless book, really untypical of steinbeck.

Same anon but not op. I really enjoyed lonesome dove (and the tv miniseries a lot too) and have read most of mccarthy's stuff. We could be buds.

I haven't read much, but from those that I have read, here's a little list of books with those feels
>La Divina Commedia
>King John
>A Sentimental Journey
>The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
>The Red and the Black
>La Petite Fadette
>Dorian Gray
>Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
>Finnegans Wake
>The Magic Mountain
>Old Man and the Sea
>A Moveable Feast
>Under the Volcano

Haven't gotten to Lonesome Dove yet, but I've read a few of his contemporary works like The Last Picture Show and Horseman Pass By.

Before I afford you coveted bud status, what's your favorite McCarthy? I absolutely love The Border Trilogy but most people here haven't seem to read or enjoy it.

I've read border trilogy. They were great. You must read lonesome dove. My fave mccarthy might be suttree.

>> No.5091994

>just finish On The Road
>feel a new found zest for life
>strong admiration for Dean Moriarity
>not sure what to read next

Why Suttree? I'm less into his Tennessee novels, they seem less biblical and less naturalistic, more deliverance. And I'm gonna pick up Lonesome Dove this week.

You're not reading the right kind of books. It's possible that you're trying too hard like this guy>>5091929
instead of choosing works that speak to you.

Am I the only one who was surprised and aroused by the BDSM in East of Eden?

>> No.5092060

Give some of the following a try

>Blood Meridian
>Moby Dick
>Suttree
>the sound and the fury

>> No.5092102

>>5092011
You're in for a treat with ldove. One of my fave westerns. Also look into warlock by oakley hall. Another epic western.

Suttree was just intensely character driven. Moreso than quite a few of his noveIs. i thought it as stylized as blood meridian. maybe not as cryptic but as good and better in some ways that just appealed to me.
