A friend of mine recommended me to read some Terry Goodkind books. Are they worth my time? Or is this guy a hack?

>> No.5090173

The covers, the names and fact that in 20 years the guy released 12 books suggest he is, indeed, a hack

>> No.5090205

not literary fiction but my brother likes him. why not give him a try. I'm sure a copy of one of his books at a used bookstore is less than a dollar.

but you come here like so many other bitches and go b-b-b-but I'm scared to read unless I know what I'm getting into. I need your approval /lit/ please /lit/ please well fuck you.

The first book is pretty good imo. The series is a somewhat cliche good vs evil, all powerful main character fantasy series but you make like it. Try reading the first book.

I agree about one and two, but three would apply to Pratchett too and Pratchett is based as fuck.

Anyone know a good torrent for the new Joe Abercrombie?

>> No.5090327

He has horrible prose, can't even get express basic ideas well, massively cliched story and characters, incredibly preachy, horrible and unrealistic sex scenes, he's really mastered the art of telling and not showing, and it get worse in his later books. I remember reading a character spout poor philosophy on the nature of good and evil for 30 pages. He's a hack writer and should be avoided, though a small amount of his work is somewhat entertaining.

>The bird let out a slow chicken cackle. It sounded like a chicken, but in her heart she knew it wasn't. In that instant, she completely understood the concept of a chicken that was not a chicken. This looked like a chicken, like most of the Mud People's chickens. But this was no chicken. This was evil manifest.

It's not worth your time.
How does he write so many words yet have them do so little? It's like magic.

>Implying the author gets a say in cover art

I wouldn't recommend it. Couldn't force myself to keep reading past the middle of the first book, it was so fucking awful. And that's coming from a Wheel of Time fan.

If you like Objectivist Tract with a hefty helpin' o S&M.

I'll admit that I would probably take Ayn Rand a little more seriously if I hadn't been exposed to the ridiculous straw fantasy version of her ideas. Perhaps that's for the better.

It is. It really is. The sad part; that was one of the higher points of his series, as it was somewhat comical. The rest is . . .

>>5092348

. . . what this fellow said.

There is literally a BDSM cult of leather-clad bipolar femdoms wielding torture dildos. [I don't know how to spoiler] The protagonist defeats them with the power of love. [/I don't know how to spoiler]
