Books that had the biggest impact on you.

A Hero of Our Time - M. Ljermontov, I read it when I was about 17 years old, can say it shaped me as a person. Never did meet anyone who found it as compelling as I did.

Would you care to explain why? I plan on reading the book but I was going to do so as a means of learning more about the Caucasus, not for the story itself.

Don't know what exactly are you looking to learn about Caucasus but in this book it is mostly romantic descriptions of traveling, which to me was great.
I guess that it had such an impact on me since it was one of my first books. What got me most is the adventurous, fatalist main character and no surprise it was, I was only 17 or 18 years old.

Flowers of Evil (read at 16, which is the best age for book impact). You know that feel when you got a sunburn, and it's starting to disappear, but your skin is still sensitive and every time you touch something a bit warm it reminds you of the pain ? Flowers of Evil left me with something similar, but inside. Still have it.
