Lets assume that the universe is deterministic and free will is nothing more than an illusion
Would this make things such as freedom and liberty moot, since they are built upon the basis of free will and the ability to "choose"?

If we are simply automatons then I can't really answer that question truthfully because the illusion is not allowing the perception which is being fooled to see that it is an illusion. If the answer to the question is yes would it really change anything?

Yeah, but consider that the human mind is limited and cant see trought the illusion, in order to see it you need a high amount of true knowledge to understand the causality involved, all the unimaginable factors. We have a limited mind.

And yeah, even if its a non deterministic system, and its based on random quantum events, even then, liberty would be non-existent.

BUT, then what?, according to that a homicidal rapist its not guilty of his/her behaviour. Dont forget that we are human, humans cant understand a deterministic system, we can only see the illution of the world, so get into your human point of view and see the simple way to approach that. If you kill this homicidal rapist, another homicidal rapists would think twice before making the crime.
