I read approximately a book per week. That means that I buy approximately one new book per week. Let's do some math.

The average new adult title, according to SLJ, costs $19.53. Now, since I buy and read one new book per week, that would mean that I'm spending $1,016/year on books alone.

Now, the kindle prices for the exact same titles are about $10 (I know this because I fucking buy them). That would be approximately $520.00/year.

If you use a kindle, or any other kind of e-reader really, not only are you saving space on your shelves, but you're also saving $500.00 every year.

I just feel muted colors are natural to books. Books are always either on shelves or desks, in either case it's unnecessary to make them pop.

A cover like Ask the Dust's is a nice, elegant way to employ design while still letting the book look and feel like a book, it's just an earthy ecru with a thick horizontal green line across the middle and many yellow lines above and bellow it, with bold font. Stuff that screams out its minimalism might as well be considered maximalist, and the idea that book covers need to reflect the thematic or stylistic content of the book, ala the Camus vintage covers, rather than its aesthetic mood seems misguided.

I think if The Stranger's cover had to be approached in that "stark minimalism" way, it would have been nicer if it was more like the Verso radical thinkers covers, which just feel more intelligently handled. Books aren't posters.

I have this gay cover of Solaris with George Clooney making out with some babe on the cover. Couldn't find it on google images, so here's the cover I wish I had instead

It's even worse when people say Blade Runner as if it is actually the title of the novel. I suppose this explains why. Also, the covers of the Mariner editions of Dick's novels are so bland...just got VALIS and The Transmigration of Timothy Archer today.
