My professor's love letter to Ron Paul. I have no idea who fucking let the book be published with this shitty cover, but I'm not surprised. My professor always publishes these books through these sketchy as fuck publishers. He has one book of his, which is supposed to still be in editing process, available for purchase on Amazon. The problem is that it's fucking atrocious as there are so many fucking typos in it.

Outer Dark is almost unreadable though. Brown on brown should be forbidden. They don't do his work justice at all.

I am pretty sure they do at first publishing, but in re-issues I am pretty sure the publishers have the final say. They want the books to look like each other, so the buyers can more easily recognize them.

But I want a good looking cover with great art, not some generic bullshit.

That's only the Vintage publisher and even then my copy of Gravity's Rainbow from them arrived with a grey cover that has a large red star. You're whining about something that is barely even prevalent. You would only ever need to purchase GR from them anyway as then penguin versions have errors, so even if you got the cover I wanted with all the little cartoons you wouldn't ever have to get one that looked like it.

I just feel muted colors are natural to books. Books are always either on shelves or desks, in either case it's unnecessary to make them pop.

A cover like Ask the Dust's is a nice, elegant way to employ design while still letting the book look and feel like a book, it's just an earthy ecru with a thick horizontal green line across the middle and many yellow lines above and bellow it, with bold font. Stuff that screams out its minimalism might as well be considered maximalist, and the idea that book covers need to reflect the thematic or stylistic content of the book, ala the Camus vintage covers, rather than its aesthetic mood seems misguided.

I think if The Stranger's cover had to be approached in that "stark minimalism" way, it would have been nicer if it was more like the Verso radical thinkers covers, which just feel more intelligently handled. Books aren't posters.
